Invitation to the Bench Marks Foundation 2019 Annual Conference

The Chairperson of the Bench Marks Foundation, Bishop Jo Seoka invites you to participate in the Bench Marks Foundation Annual Conference and General Meeting. The Bench Marks Foundation Conference is on the 22-23 October 2019. The Theme for this year's Conference is "Mining and Climate Catastrophe"

The BMF Annual Conference has grown from a small gathering of Bench Marks Foundation associates to a big inquisitorial event which involves our stakeholders and constituencies, which include communities, corporations, church leaders, civil society and alliance partners. We work with 6 southern African countries more so in the community monitoring school programme.

In 2018 our theme was New Dawn or Continuing Nightmare, dealing with whether mining in South Africa was a sunset or sunrise industry. We are celebrating another year of the work of the Bench Marks Foundation and aim again to put it into a space where a diverse often opposing group of people engage each other on the key issues of mining and community.

In 2019 the BMF plans to use this space of the conference to engage on two important problems: the problem of climate change and the catastrophe along with a just transition from mining. It builds on our theme, New Dawn or Continuing Nightmare.

The Annual Conference will be held at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown, Johannesburg.
